Book Review - A Merry Little Christmas

Fall in love with this cozy story about two people from different worlds. Franny Martin is an Oklahoma farm girl who’s preparing to spend the holidays alone…again. Then Charlie Landau shows up one day, all wealth and polish, and offers to buy Franny’s farm. Franny has no money to speak of, but she is clever and spirited, and she’s more than happy to sell the farm and move to the city. As Sinatra croons from the radio and Christmas descends upon her charming farm, Franny teaches Charlie the curious and sometimes comical ways of country life. In the process, they unearth some discoveries of the heart—that sometimes love comes when you’re least ready for it. Will the holidays bring their most impossible dreams within reach?

My Review: Eventhough its October, I love reading Christmas books and listening to Christmas music.  This book is a great read for anytime of the year, it is not his book rapped up in pretty Christmas paper.  This was a very well written and easy to read. Every one that reads this book will think oh another Christmas read, but  its not about Christmas at all. Carols are sung and the radio plays Christmas favorites, however for the most part, Christmas is just a time on the calender. The final scene does occur on Christmas

I received this wonderful book from Liftuse cfor my hines

Guest Post - Jen from Rushing for Bagels - Lemon in Warm Water

I spend my free time alone at home reading blogs and other magazine articles found in the internet about health, fitness, some archaeological mysteries, and a few celebrity gossip here and there.
I found out that the best morning mood pick-upper is no other than…
No it’s not coffee.
Or tea.
Or a caramel waffle with whipped cream *not that I'm not craving for it*

It's loaded with health benefits!
You shall be surprised.

What are the health benefits of drinking lemon in the morning?

I have been drinking lemon in warm water first thing in the morning for a week and I have not gone to the coffee machine in my office pantry for as long too.
The lemon leaves a taste in your mouth that you won’t be craving for anything sweet in the morning.

A big world that will make a difference in your life.
Lemon washes out toxins out of the body.
How can you know that this is working?
Look at your body.
Inner health is reflected on the surface of your skin.
Toxins trapped in the colon find ways to other parts of the body, also the skin.
This triggers flare-ups and skin rashes.
Lemon cleanses your body off harmful wastes.

With lemon’s high vitamin C, you can prevent illnesses like the cold and the flu.
It builds up your immunity.

Potassium is an important mineral that works with sodium for smooth processing in the brain and nervous system.
Low potassium levels were traced wit depression, anxiety, fogginess, and forgetfulness.
That same nervous system needs potassium to assure steady signals to the heart.
So your heart health is improved from the lemon water’s potassium.
See how effective this is as a morning drink?

Lemon is acidic but once it metabolized, it becomes alkaline.
Alkalines help keep the oxygen in our blood at a safe pH level.
This helps our body heal itself, assimilate nutrients and fight off unwanted sickness.

A regular intake of lemon water promotes elimination.
With all the toxins removed from your body, it can respond more to a healthy diet and exercise.
It also kills cravings so it keeps you on the healthy track.
I’m like a queen of cravings so I can say that it lessened when I was taking lemon for a week already.

How to take it?

1. Prepare a glass of warm water, a straw, a lemon, and a knife right after you woke up.

2. Roll the lemon around your table top to start the flow of juices inside the fruit.

3. Slice the lemon in half. Keep one half in the fridge.

4. Squeeze the other half of the lemon on the warm water. I just let the seeds get in my drinks. It has a distinct taste I like (I don’t swallow it though).

5. Use the straw to drink so as to protect the teeth from the acidity of the lemon.

6. Enjoy while you’re doing your other morning routines. I advise that you don’t add sweeteners like sugar or honey. It’s best to let the lemon work on your body on its own. :)

You should try it! You’ll be finishing off about just four lemons a week (Php 60.50 or $1.5).

UPDATE: I lost a couple of pounds because of this. Honestly. It's obvious when you look at me though my weight is maintained because of all the weight exercises I do.

Guest Post - Hannah from Hurley Love - Hannah Banana Muffins

Hello Readers of Pamela's Heavenly Treats. My name is Hannah Hurley and I am the blogger behind Hurley Love.  I am a momma of our new baby girl, Lilly Mae.

I love Miss Pamela and I'm sure you do too! I hope I do her justice with this recipe. It's my favorite for ripe bananas.

Do you have over ripe bananas? Do you just throw them away? Well DON'T. If you have overripe bananas just throw them in the freezer (peel them first if you get the chance). This recipe is perfect for those ripe bananas, and it's easy to do on the fly.

Hannah Banana Muffins
1 1/2 cups flour
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
1 egg
3 large or 4 medium mashed bananas
3/4 cups sugar
1/4 cup oil (or substitute applesauce for oil)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, and cinnamon in large bowl. Create a well for the wet ingredients. In a separate medium bowl, combine egg, bananas, sugar and oil. Pour wet mixture into dry mixture and fold wet into dry. Do not over mix. Using a paper towel with a little oil on it, grease the muffin tins. This will help get the muffins out easily. Take an ice cream scooper and scoop banana mixture into muffin tins about 3/4 full. Bake at 350 for about 20 minutes. Use a knife to cut around muffins and place on a drying rack or in a basket to cool off...that is if they aren't consumed by then :)

Thanks for checking out this recipe. For more adventures with our little one, please visit Hurley Love.

I want to thank Hannah for being my guest today! I will certainly be making these awesome muffins! Make sure to visit Hurley Love, and see her awesome post!

Guest Post - Dalayna from Pointing Up

Hello to all you Heavenly Treats readers! My name is Dalayna from Pointing Up blog all about words, love, and actions that point to Christ. Today I am sharing with you a yummy treat, and this one that I am going to share is in fact QUITE yummy!

A couple weeks back, some friends and I had a craft night. You may be able to relate to having all these ideas, pins, and projects built up but just never make time to complete them. Well that's where some of us were. So we decided to put it on the calendar and do them. So we got together, had some dinner and munched on some sweets while we were crafting. Sounds like the perfect way to spend your evening, huh? One of the treats that we were munching on were these little guys here:

At first sight I was turned off. Sure they were cute and festive for the season, but I personally do not like candy corn. Do. Not. Like. It. So I was just going to skip over them, but my friend convinced me just to try them because you can't really taste the candy corn. So I did. And I didn't! Taste the candy corn that is. These little guys blew my mind. So simple, so cute, and soooo yummy. My friend who made these made them with milk chocolate Hersey kisses rather than the swirl, but I loved the milk chocolate. I am officially a fan of candy corn.... on top of a pretzel and a chocolate kiss of course. If you have a little Halloween get-together or just want something to liven up your kitchen these are perfect. Try them out and fall in love, guaranteed!

I want to give a big thanks to Dalayna for this yummy treat ( I will be making this lovely treat, wish I had some right now) make sure you go visit Pointing Up, you will love all of her awesome posts!

Heavenly Healthy Banana Bread

Now who doesn't like Banana Bread? I love it and so does my family, but I have never made it before, breads are really not my thing!  To me it just takes so much time, and so many steps I have to be in the mood to make any kind of homemade bread. Now this is the easiest bread recipe that I would make this each week, because its healthy, yummy and my family loves it!

Heavenly Healthy Banana Bread

I had some bananas that were just sitting on the counter in my fruit bowl, and I thought to myself I am going to make a banana bread, and I am so glad I did, it came out delicious!

1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened)

  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3 medium to large bananas, cut into chunks
  • 1/4 cup agave nector
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 cups whole wheat flour

1) Preheat your oven to 350. Lightly grease a loaf pan.
2) In a large bowl, beat together the butter and sugar until smooth. Add  vanilla, baking soda, salt, and bananas, beating until combined well.
3) Beat in the agave nectar and eggs.
4) Add the flour mixture slowly.
5) Spoon the batter into the prepared pan, smoothing the top. Let it rest at room temperature for 10 minutes.
6) Bake for 50 minutes, then lay a piece of aluminum foil across the top, to prevent over-browning. Bake for an additional 10 minutes, remove the bread from the oven.
7) Allow the loaf to cool for 10 minutes; then remove it from the pan, and set it on a rack to cool completely.

Guest Post - Pint Sized Baker - Pumpkin Pie Pop Tart Sandwiches

Hi Everyone, I'm Karyn from the Pint Sized Baker. I'm a wife to Mr. Quart and a mom to my Little Cup. The best part of writing a blog about baking treats, is that they enjoy eating them!

This week, over on my blog, I am celebrating all things Pop Tarts!
Pop on over and check out all the fun things I've made; like THIS, THIS and THIS!

Today, I'm sharing this fun twist to Pop Tart Sandwiches.

While shopping at Target last week, I finally found the Pumpkin Pie Pop Tarts! SCORE! Target to the rescue again!
So I bought ALL of them. You know... to stockpile until next year.  But I did make some yummy sandwiches for YOU with them.

Now, you may have seen an Ice Cream version of these, but these are NOT made with ice cream.
Nope! I decided to take a scoop of Cool Whip and flavor it with Pumpkin Spice Pudding. Because what goes BEST with Pumpkin Pie????
Cool Whip!
Genius! I know :)

You can make these sandwiches with any flavor of Pop Tarts and Pudding. Have you flavored Cool Whip with pudding before? It's really good and thickens up the Cool Whip to make it a real treat.

For a Printable copy of the recipe, please come on over to my page. I'd love to show you more of my treats.

Thanks so much to Pamela for having me over! Have a Super Fall weekend and a safe and Spooky Halloween!

~Thanks so much Karyn for being my guest today, and for making this YUMMY treat, my kiddies will love this treat!  Make sure you head over to Pint Sized Baker to see more of her delicious treats~
